Cartesian Products - More Common Than You Think

MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK

Hello Everyone,

Thanks to everyone who came out to see my presentation on cartesian products at the Northeast Oracle User's Group (NOUG) on March 5th, 2008. I'd also given the presentation at Data Management Association (DAMA) in April 2007. Hopefully, the word will circulate, and we can help stamp out cartesian products.

As promised, I have made the slides available to those who want them.

If you want to experiment with SQL queries on the same schemas, you can also download the schemas too.
The schemas are named: Carter, and Carter2. As in, cartesian product.
They are standard Oracle export files, from Oracle version 9.2.

Schema Carter contains 240 rows in the table with the most rows.

Schema Carter2 contains the same table structures, but have 1000 times more rows in each table, for a maximum of 240,000 rows.
This is the schema I used for performance testing.
